Bud and Linda Tarrson Fellowship

One $30,000 fellowship is awarded annually to support early-career periodontal faculty committed to careers in teaching and research.

Charles W. Finley Visiting Scholar Education Grants

Application Deadline: Apr 1, 2027

Up to five $2,000 grants are awarded annually to accredited U.S. periodontal programs to support visiting scholars who provide educational programming for residents, faculty, and the broader dental community.

Dr. and Mrs. Gerald M. Kramer Scholar Award for Excellence

Application Deadline: May 15, 2027

One $10,000 award is presented annually to a third-year periodontal resident who demonstrates excellence in both character and academic achievement.

Dr. D. Walter Cohen Teaching Award

Application Deadline: Jun 1, 2027

One $10,000 scholarship is awarded annually to support third-year periodontal residents pursuing careers in full-time teaching and research.

Dr. James T. Mellonig Regeneration Research Grant

Application Deadline: Jun 1, 2027

One $20,000 research grant is awarded annually to an individual or collaborative team conducting research related to regeneration.

Dr. Mark K. Setter Leadership in Periodontology and Dental Implantology Award

Application Deadline: Jun 1, 2027

One $10,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a periodontal resident who exemplifies leadership in periodontology and dental implantology.

Educator Scholarships

Two $12,000 scholarships are awarded annually to provide financial support for periodontal residents committed to careers as full-time educators.

Institute for Teaching and Learning Fellowships

Application Deadline: Apr 30, 2027

Up to five fellowships are awarded annually to help periodontists strengthen their teaching skills and prepare for roles in dental education at the AAL’s Institute for Teaching and Learning, held each year in August.

International Resident Award

Application Deadline: Jun 1, 2027

One $2,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a rising third-year resident who completed dental school outside of the United States.

Levi-Richman Multidisciplinary Oral-Systemic Research Grants

Application Deadline: Oct 1, 2026, Application Deadline: Apr 1, 2027

$50,000 – $100,000 in research grants are awarded annually to individuals and collaborative teams conducting epidemiological research on the oral-systemic link.

Lynch Translational Science Scholarship

Application Deadline: Jun 1, 2027

One $30,000 scholarship is awarded annually, to be used exclusively for tuition and fees to pursue an advanced degree in translational science at a U.S. university.

McGuire Program for Clinician Scientists

The McGuire Program for Clinician Scientists provides introductory training and mentorship for established periodontal private practicioners interested in establishing high-level research programs in their clinics.

Nevins and Nevins-BioHorizons Teaching and Clinical Research Fellowships

Two $20,000 fellowships are awarded annually to supplement the incomes of early-career periodontal faculty.

Patty and Paul Levi Research Award

Richman Family Foundation Perio-Ortho Interface Grants
