The award was created by generous donors in honor of Myron Nevins, DDS, a leader in periodontal clinical research. Dr. Nevins’s research contributions fundamentally advanced periodontal regeneration and implant therapy. As principal investigator in pivotal FDA trials, he played a central role in the approval of biologic agents such as rhBMP-2 and rhPDGF-BB, which have since become integral to regenerative procedures and are now woven into the standard of care in clinical practice. He was an extraordinary leader in organized dentistry, serving as President of the American Academy of Periodontology and on the boards of directors of both the AAP Foundation and American Board of Periodontology. As co-editor-in-chief and co-founder of the International Journal of Periodontics & Restorative Dentistry for more than four decades, he shaped the global scientific discourse in periodontology and implant dentistry and elevated the expectations for evidence-based clinical care.
